Silencers for blowers, gas turbines, compressors and boiler systems
Gas turbines are being used more and more frequently in power stations. At the same time, noise protection requirements in power stations have become increasingly stringent. This means that silencers are required for gas turbines and waste heat boilers in almost all projects. The high output levels of gas turbines, especially in the low-frequency range, place special acoustic demands on the system. At the same time, the high stresses on materials, design and workmanship must be taken into account.
The silencers are located directly behind the gas turbine, in the bypass stack and/or behind the waste heat boiler.
Furthermore, silencers on the suction or pressure side of large blowers and compressors are generally indispensable, but usually have lower requirements in terms of the thermal and mechanical load capacity of the materials compared to gas turbines.
These are usually absorption silencers. The silencers are designed in accordance with the requirements specified in the operating data and acoustic specifications.
The following points should be taken into account:
- Mass flow, temperature
- Dynamic damping.
- Flow velocities and pressure losses.
- Losses due to fixtures, deflections, boilers, chimneys and other transfers
- Additional sources of noise, e.g. burners (especially when primary silencers are used).
- Mechanical strength (vibrations, turbulence).
- Thermal strength (rapid temperature rise).
The design usually covers several operating states of the turbine and boiler systems. The optimum damping, pressure loss and dimensions must be determined from several calculations, which is done today using powerful software programmes.
